Leadership Team at First Lutheran

The governing principles of Lutherans are found in their church constitutions and supportive documents. We are a representative democracy. The Baptized and Confirmed members of the congregation hold the governing authority of the church. At the Annual Meeting, the congregation elects’ volunteers to the Church Council.

These elected Church Council members are responsible to oversee the gathering, work, mission, and ministry of the church. In a ceremony Council members promise “to work with each other, the pastor and other members of the congregation; contributing to the life, vitality and ongoing work of the church.” Each member also promises “to uphold the church constitution, bylaws, and continuing resolutions of the church.” They also promise ‘to promote a climate of peace and goodwill in the congregation and when differences and conflict arise” they also promise “to foster mutual understanding and respect.”

The elected Council Members also hold various ministry positions and represents a Committee at the Council Meeting. Church Committees rely on volunteers and are responsible for planning, organizing, and fulfilling its mission and ministry goals. When needed, the Church Council supports the work of the committees.

The Pastor of the church is Called by the Congregation at a special meeting. When the Pastor accepts the Congregational Call, the pastor promises to help lead the church and work with the Church Council, the church Committees and church organizations of the congregation. Together we fulfill the vision mission and ministry of the church.

At First Lutheran Church we believe in Mutual Ministry, cooperatively working together. Through this kind of democratic governance, we are blessed and hope to be a blessing to each other, our community, nation, and world. If you have no church home, we invite you to join us as we walk together with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
